I’m a clay artist specializing in decorative, wheel-thrown functional ware. My themes are drawn from nature, especially the wildflowers, flora, and fauna found in Summit County. Each piece is unique, employing a variety of techniques. Some pieces are decorated with drawings using underglaze pencil, paints, or transfers, while others incorporate texture through sgraffito, slip trailing and raised shapes.
I was raised in a Cuban family in southern Florida, speaking Spanish as my first language. I started working with clay while in college and earned my undergraduate degree in fine arts from the Rhode Island School of Design. Although I intended to continue working in the arts, the passing of both my parents while I was in school led me to pursue a corporate career to pay the bills. In October 2023, I was finally able to retire and have since been working with clay at the Art Spot in Silverthorne.
Today, I divide my time between making pottery and adventuring in the outdoors. You can catch me skiing at Keystone, A-Basin, Breckenridge, or wherever there’s great snow! In the summers I bike ride, hike, kayak and backpack. I’m also a volunteer with the Eagle Summit Wilderness Alliance (ESWA) which supports forest service activities in Eagle and Summit Counties. I live full-time in Silverthorne with my husband, Tom, and have two grown children in Denver, CO, and San Jose, CA.
